Various Christian Beliefs concerning illness
Romans 3:23 (NIV)
for
all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
The Word of God also shows
us that we have all been offered the very same gift of eternal
life from God our Father through His Son Jesus Christ.
John 3:16-17 (NIV)
For God so loved the world
that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall
not perish but have eternal life.
For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to
save the world through him.
The bible also tells us to care for those
who are hurting and in distress and to meet their needs.
Matthew 25:35-45 (NIV)
35 For I was hungry and you
gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to
drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in,
36 I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after
me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.'
37 "Then the righteous will answer him, 'Lord, when did we see you
hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink?
38 When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes
and clothe you?
39 When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?'
40 "The King will reply, 'I tell you the truth, whatever you did for
one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.'
41 "Then he will say to those on his left, 'Depart from me, you who are
cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels.
42 For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and
you gave me nothing to drink,
43 I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and
you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look
after me.'
44 "They also will answer, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty
or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help
you?'
45 "He will reply, 'I tell you the truth, whatever you did not do for
one of the least of these, you did not do for me.'
Christ himself taught the disciples the
importance of serving others when he knelt down and washed their feet.
John 13:5 (NIV)
After that, he poured water into a basin and began to wash his
disciples' feet, drying them with the towel that was wrapped around him.
John 13:12-17 (NIV)
12 When he had finished washing their feet, he put on his clothes and
returned to his place. "Do you understand what I have done for you?" he
asked them.
13 "You call me 'Teacher' and 'Lord,' and rightly so, for that is what I
am.
14 Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also
should wash one another's feet.
15 I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you.
16 I tell you the truth, no servant is greater than his master, nor is a
messenger greater than the one who sent him.
17 Now that you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them.
